The Train Singer
The day I realized I could be happy and poor at the same time.
I was returning from a tough day at work. The main train station at 6 o’clock in Buenos Aires was packed and noisy with hundreds of people walking in every direction to get to their corresponding boarding lane. The machines were whining past me. I stepped into the first wagon of the train, and between the muttering of the people there was this reverberating sound that I will never forget. In this context, the train singer was loud but melodious, husky but powerful, hoarse and beautiful symphony.
